Northern University Dance Competition

The Northern University Dance Competition (NUDC) is the second biggest university dance event of the year - second only to Nationals in Blackpool.

This year the University of Birmingham Ballroom and Latin American Dance Society will be hosting the event on the University campus. We would like to open the event to anyone who wishes to come and see what Ballroom and Latin American Dance is all about.

The day will include a variety of dance including Ballroom & Latin, Rock & Roll and Salsa. There is also a team "show-dance" performed by each team. There will be a bar from 3pm and a selection of dance retailers in the foyer.

After the competition has finished there is an after-party at Fab N Fresh in the Guild of Students - any students coming to the event are free to join us there (tickets should be purchases in advance).

9.00am: Doors open

10.00am: Old time dance – Mayfair quickstep

10.30am: Ballroom rounds
Beginners – 1-dance (Waltz and Quickstep)
Novice – 2-dance (Waltz and Quickstep)
Intermediate – 2-dance (Quickstep and Viennese Waltz)
Advanced – 2-dance (Quickstep and Viennese Waltz)
Ex-student novice – 2-dance (Waltz and Quickstep)
Ex-student – 1-dance (Viennese Waltz)
Open modern 5-dance (Waltz, Quickstep, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese
Waltz)
Ballroom finals and presentations

1.30pm: Lunch break

2.00pm: Rock & Roll rounds
Non-acrobatic rock & roll
Acrobatic rock & roll

2.30pm: Salsa
Open salsa competition

3.00pm: Latin rounds
Beginners – 1-dance (Cha and Jive)
Novice – 2-dance (Cha and Jive)
Intermediate – 2-dance (Paso Doble and Jive)
Advanced – 2-dance (Paso Doble and Jive)Ex-student novice – 2-dance (Cha and Jive)
Ex-student – 1-dance (Rumba)
Open Latin 5-dance (Cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble and Jive) – open to all
Latin finals

6.00pm: Offbeat

7.00pm: Dinner break

7.10pm: Demonstration – Latin Cabaret

7.30pm: Team Knockout – 6 dances drawn from; Waltz, Viennese Waltz and Quickstep for
ballroom and Cha, Paso Doble and Jive for Latin.

8.00pm: Team Match –(Waltz, Quickstep, Cha Cha and Jive)

10.00pm: Team match presentation

10.30pm: Last Waltz and then after-party on the university campus.
